Who are we?
Who Are We?
Compass Rose is a brand new public charter school in San Antonio, TX. We will open in August 2017 with our inaugural class of 6th and 7th graders, and we will grow by one grade level each year until we are a full middle and high school.
We are deeply committed to helping all students live up to their power and potential through a rigorous high-tech, college-preparatory education. The Compass Rose model takes the best practices of high-performing charter schools nationwide and layers onto that strong base an innovative, personalized curriculum for each student. The result is a school that is uniquely suited to educate students in low-income areas of San Antonio.
We were authorized by the Texas Education Agency in the spring of 2016. Our approach to building a great school is based on three foundational beliefs:
- Every child, no matter their race, socio-economic status, zip code, or home language, can be on a path to college and a lifetime of success;
- Students thrive in a personalized, structured, and supportive environment; and
- Teaching technology literacy, leadership skills, cultural competence, and self-advocacy are critical components to building our country’s future leaders.
What Does Our Name Mean?
A compass rose (Rosa de los vientos) is the figure on a map or compass used to display the orientation of the cardinal directions: North, East, South, and West—and their intermediate points.
Each student is on a unique path from the moment they begin school until they graduate college. Our goal is to help our students blaze their own trails as they build their dreams. Like a compass for a traveler, Compass Rose Academy will point students towards college and successful careers, and we will support them as they complete their journey.
